Much original red About UNC   500. Count Czapski sold his Russian collection in 1884 to Grand Duke George Michailovich Romanov. Czapski's collection experienced various fortunes; now, part of it is to be found in the Smithsonian Institution, in the State Hermitage in St. Petersburg, and State Historical Museum in Moscow. Specimens from his collection are easily identified by Czapski's miniature die consisting of the letter 'C' with the family coat of arms Leliwa (star and half-moon).

Diagnostics of die-faults and other characteristics (B p.203) show this to be an original specimen. We can conclude that this piece is an early die state, based on observations that die breaks are not as deep as on a piece pictured in the Brekke catalog.
